Contact Lenses dan Low Vision

Low vision is a condition of vision in which a person whose visual function is hampered after medical procedures and standard refractive correction. After getting the best vision with or without assistive devices and getting training and environmental modifications, their functions and abilities will be optimal.

The characteristics of people with low vision include writing and reading at close range, can only read large letters, difficulty reading text from a distance, squinting or frowning when looking at objects, not looking straight ahead when looking at something, eyeballs move, it's hard to see at night and other eye conditions appear, for example they look cloudy or white on the outside.

Low Vision can be caused by various disorders that affect the eyes and visual system including congenital defects, accidents or certain diseases. A more common cause is damage to the retina which is the light-sensitive tissue in the eyeball, for example retinal damage due to diabetes (diabetic retinopathy), retinal detachment (retinal detachment) or retinal macules. However, impaired vision can also be caused by conditions such as congenital cataracts, glaucoma and scarring of the cornea.

The way to deal with Low Vision conditions is to use the necessary non-optical aids such as lighting, contrast sensitivity and viewing position. The best vision optimization is with glasses and magnifying glasses or electronic aids for close distances and for long distances using a telescope. Besides that, you can also use the learning media needed by enlarging text letters or using Braille letters. This vision exercise is more effective in infants, preschool and school age.
